Agree - I had HD's helmet lock, but it was pretty easy to remove w/needlenose pliers & left indents on chrome. Ended up using cable gun lock (like pic) & works quite well...

A determined helmet thief will want your helmet to wear or to sell and will therefore get it regardless, however if he has to cut the strap it is useless for either unless he sews some d-rings back on, which isn't that big of a problem. the average (probably most common) helmet thief is some punk kid walking by who impulsively thinks "it'd be funny to steal that and throw it in the river"...maybe he doesn't have a knife. as with any security situation, layers of deterrent are useful in some measure.

I use the HD lock mounted on my left side engine guard. I bought star head screws so anyone who carries that kind of tools will get it easy. I agree that it is just a deterrent but it has worked so far. It hold both mine and the wife's fine.
