1998 Fatboy service
Hello, I just bought a 1998 Fatboy. It has 8600 miles on it and I want to give it a tune up. It runs great and nothing is wrong with it but i know the previous owner didnt ride it much. I am planning on getting a service manual but I just wanted to know what you guys might recommend for me to do or check. Thanks

Change all the oils and then go ride it. Make sure there is air in the tires too. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
When you get the service manual read it and start maintenance and keep written record of all you do.
The only other thing that comes to mind right now is change the cam bearing to the Torrington sooner than later unless it's already been done.

Heres the sheet of work done from a service dept, they are supposed to Check each one and should be done at recommended times....

Check the age of the tires, All tires have a manufacturer date stamped into them. "3810" means the tire was manufactured the 38th week of 2010.
If those tires are more than 4 years old, check for dry rotting and consider replacing them ASAP.
13 years old and 8600 miles....amazing.

Pretty good bet the tires are old if not original...check them out... one of, if not the most important thing on the bike.

I know a lot here think the only way to take care of their bike is by doing the work themselves and there is nothing wrong with that.
Myself I like to have anything used looked at by a tech right off the bat. On my 06 SB that had 14,900 miles on it I sent it in for some winter mods and a good once over by the tech. They did a 15,000 miles service so I got a lot of the mods done for free. They also found a loose drive belt, spoke were in need of attention and a few other minor items...Now I know the bike is 100% and ready to ride.
The 1998 FB I just bought I did the same with and found nothing in need of attention other than maybe rear pads while it was torn down to save labor down the road. But then again with the mods I had done that bike is close to new now.
Now I can just keep an eye on things and feel they are up and ready for any ride.
Just my thinking.
