I say go for it. You have the right attitude and I'll bet you make a profit.

Put a regular springer front end, cat eye dash, and vintage fishtails. But there is a guy who already makes em like that.

I bet I do too, but agree that the used bike market is down and Customs especially. With the leaf Spring front end there wont be anything to compare it to however and it's going to all boil down to how nice the bike turns out.

It only takes one guy with cash who loves it. I know if I had $12K and was shopping, it would be hard to find a neater bike.

But.... I'll have to build it and put it up for auction to find out.

I'll keep this thread and post photos and auction results. Should be fun.

The used market is saturated right now but it only takes 1 buyer. With the economy starting to turn around, and the cuts in new bike production, the used market will likely firm up some too. I have been talking with local dealers who are claiming their sales are up and they cannot get enough bikes...new or used. One dealer told me he has sold 40 used bikes this month! He is also saying Harley cut production too far. We'll see if he is right.

A production cut can only help us out. Simple supply and demand.

Harley Davidson is the master of market manipulation. Remember the 6 month waiting list and the immediate $1000 over list price mark-up around 04?

If the market is saturated and sales are down, harley will remedy that.

Cut way back and create a frenzy of demand then ramp up for years of profit.

I may have to take a gamble (after additional research) and snap up a few cheap low mile FXST's for vintage retrofit.

I hadn't heard that. I wonder how much they reduced production.

I think its just dependent of where you are and how strong the economy is there. The closest dealerships to me have had mostly the same bikes for a year now only bikes i see moving somewhat are the used bikes and even thats rare.

Are you sure they're cutting production?

They sound strong to me.

Nothing.

Being the first year for the Evo motor there probably were some issues initially, but any issues that would have arose would be evident in the first year of riding. You can bet anything thats been around and on the road for 25 years has been pretty well sorted out maintenance wise and anything that would or could fail has been replaced long ago.
