This is a repeat post. I think posting it here may get a better responce. I have a Fat Boy Lo with 4200 miles and I already need a new back tire. I keep the bike at the HD recomended pressure. Is this normal mileage for the 200mm tire and what brand are you guys using. Also I am not an aggressive rider.

 

I think you're going to find that's about average with the factory Dunlops. 4500-5 was all I could get out of mine. 2 of those and I said enough of this crap. Put a set of Pirelli "Night Dragons" (dumbest name EVER) and have been extremely happy. Have almost 3k on them and wear is minimal.

 

Keep changing brands until you find the one that gives YOU the best overall performance and fulfills what YOU want a tire to do. It's some trial and error, but you'll get there... there is no magical answer for anyone on what the best tire is. I too have been very happy with the Pirelli "Night Dragons"... plenty of aggressiveness and stick on the turns matched well with plenty of miles. Just getting ready to replace the rear tire at 10,000 miles.

 

My 09 Fatboy rear got changed out at 12K.... went with stock tire again. And it had a little tread left, so no I don't think thats normal at all.

 

I agree. Just tore my bike down this morning to get an E-3 Dunlop put on. Got 8,000 out of the second Dunlop D401.

 

You say your not a aggressive rider.
How do you brake?
I find people that use the rear brake as primary tend to use up the rear rather quickly.

I don't think I am heavy on the back braking, If I can I engine brake. I live in Fl. so I have no wear on the sides.

 

Run the tire at a higher than recommended pressure than Harley recommends. Dunlops I run at 40 psi. It will last longer. 5000K miles is like a sport bike tire.

I thought the Elite 3 or American 3 tires were for 18" wheels. The FB has 17's, no? I like that Elite 3. Will they fit the FB?

 

Stock setting for the Lo is 40 or 42 psi. I check the pressure regularly.
