NO, I don't think 4200mi is normal wear.

I got 4900 out of my first rear tire on my LO. But it really should have been replaced before that. I'm not aggressive on the roads either. However at my 5K service I showed it to them and they warrantied it for free. I do have the tire warranty. Only problem was that they warrantied it with another Dunlop and it's wearing quickly too. I got about 9K out of the rear Dunlop on my Deluxe before switching brands. I'll be getting off the Dunlops on my LO soon too. See if you can get HD to agree that it's excessive and see if they'll warranty it?

I guess I won't complain about the 10K I got on the rear Dunlop on my heritage....had 15K on the original tire before replacing it. We'll see how many miles I get on this one.

Okay I think I have found the problem. When I purchased the bike I bought a cheap tool kit. I just checked that tire gauge against two different gauges. results are I have been running 6 lbs to low.

I am a VERY, VERY aggressive rider. I only got 4500ish out of my stock Harley 200mm rear tire. I put an Avon Storm 200/50-17 on it, I've got about 7000 miles on it now and I just hit the "wear bars". I'm picking up an Avon Storm "2" 200/50-17 today. They are supposed to have a thicker contact patch on them so they last a little longer....

We'll see!!

That'll do it, especially in a hot place like Fl. And, remember that your front brake is your main brake. Engine braking will cause wear on your back tire too.

About average for a Dunlop.
I get the best mileage (7-8k) and the best handling from the Avon Cobras.

I just put a 160/16 on the back of my Heritage. Not sure what year FB you have. If it's newer it probably has a 200. There are a lot of sizes availale in the E-3.

I got about 1/2 the total miles on my Duece 160/70-17 as I did on a 1100 Yamaha V-Star Custom. The Harley tires are fairly soft on certain numbers and designed for grip in my opinion. Just remember if you go to a harder design you will lose some of the grip. You may be riding more agressive then you think. I did get closer to 10K out of mine and I drive just like the grandpa I am. My number started with 5 (forget the rest) but when you go to the Dunlop site it says the tire came from their race circuit.

I have seen several posts from Fatboy owners who say their rear tires wear out at around 7K miles. Never seen someone say they don't even get 5K!

I use the stock type Dunlop D401 200/55R/17 rear tire on my Xbones and so far I have gotten a consistent 12K+ miles out of each tire. I also live in Central Florida and I ride almost year round.
