Default Am I an idiot? swingarm bag install

Hi, I bought a swingarm bag but I can not get the straps through the belt guard. Do you guys loosen up the guard to install? I would like to remove it easily. Thanks for any help. The Idiot Mike

Take the belt guard off! Mine has been off for several years.

What kind of bike are you putting it onto? Are you having problems with the upper or lower? You shouldn't have to do anything with the belt guard. trying putting the top left strap around the swingarm a little farther toward the front of the bike....there should be enough room for the strap.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were a FatBoy Lo.. seems like everyone's buying one lately..makes for a sad panda. Anyways:

I couldn't get my straps through the belt guard either, so i had to take the guard off. What i'm trying to do is strap it on, then put the belt guard (upper only) back on over the straps. unfortunately I can't give you a final outcome because my rear tire is still off my bike so I don't know how the guard is going to line up with the belt anymore.

A 1/2 inch zip tie is thinner than the leather provided and has more longevity than the leather. I used zip ties to mount to the upper swing arm.

Heavy duty zip tie! I had my belt guards off long before I got a solo bag.

I made a stainless steel plate and rivited it to the back of the bag and replaced the belt gaurd bolts with studs and used some 1/4 pipe as a spacer. Very easy to remove plus it dont rub on any of the paint or chrome either.
