Make sure that your gas cap is tight too..I had it happen to me right after a fill up and even though I had twisted the cap until it clicked a few times it did not seal well. I had read on the forum that others have had the same problem and recomended that you use the heal of your hand to push down while you tighten the cap..Have not had the problem since..

I have that issue on my '10 Heritage. I fill it on the kickstand, generally leave about 1/2 to 3/4" below the filler neck. I can stand it up, no leak but as soon as I turn the ignition on and the FI cycles through here it comes. The dealer service guy drilled a small hole 1/16-3/32 in the plastic part of the vent on the inside of the cap. That seemed to help quite a bit. Don't know if somehow the tank was pressurizing when the FI kicked on (doesn't make sense, I know). I still get a towel and am ready after each fill up. And yeah, I have done it with the bike really hot and it has ran down on the engine and I was a little freaked. I will try pushing down on the cap as mentioned above.

Press down on the gas cap while tightening . You get another 1/2 turn and no more leaks

I just replaced the Kury "flush" gas cap because of this issue. The seal was crap and the chrome started to show rust under it.

I went to the HD flushmount cap and gauge and no more leaks.

This started a thread about it earlier. Two fill ups no problem when pressing firmly when twisting the gas cap

Some times the diaphragm in the cap for the one way vent will go bad and spew gas all over the tank once you have filled up and take off. Had this happen with my 08 Deluxe. Dropped the cap when filling it up one day and had trouble with it the next few fill ups. replaced the cap and it was fine.
