I have a New 2011 H Softail... and the 5th gear screams VERY LOAD when I am in 5th Gear and le off the gas... Harley Davidson has 2 2011 H Softail that is doing this mine and someone Else.
They say they don’t know what is doing this and want me to put a 1000 miles on the Bike before they open the Transmission.
Have anyone heard of this ??

I have a 2011 deluxe and I have no laud sounds in 5th. Something isn't right you should have a tech at the dealer ride your bike so they can hear first hand, good luck.

 

Must be an issue. I thought that one of the improvement on the newer softails is a quieter fifth gear. I have an 08 and I don't think fifth gear is all that loud so if yours is "screaming" then I would certainly be concerned.

They probably want you to put 1000 miles on the bike first so that they can say that it was negligence on your part and not cover it under warranty.

That's jacked up. It shouldn't be making a very LOAD SCREAM. I don't think I would want to wait a 1000 miles. Then again, if you are like me you could drop it off next week. It's end of Mar now, don't know where you are from, but I am thinking in a 1000 miles it'll be prime riding season. There you will be with a brand new $19K bike in the shop waiting on them. If you can't knock out a 1000 miles by the end of the weekend, tell them you don't think it is ridable and you don't want to be stranded somewhere when it lets go. I guess I am one of the lucky few that has a good dealer. I know they wouldn't do me that way.

Wonder if a few new bikes were fitted with 'pre' 10 transmissions? There is a difference in the fifth gear (straight cut to helical). I have an '09'. It does make noise but is not an issue, especially since I changed pipes.

 

they want to wait so the MoCo can't say that they del the bike that way. They should have picked it up at PDI, take it back so they can fix it now and not have it all summer

 

Never heard of that even on the early six speeds. My 07 is very quiet in fifth. So is my sons and my BILs. If it is screaming, something is wrong. Take it back and let them fix it. If it is not really screaming, or if you really don't have a harley then just ignore this post.
