When I was sporting a Bell Drifter, I was the guy that got stung on every ride (usually 2-3 times a ride!). The ear-flaps are great for wind noise, but they trapped bugs against my ears. Luckily, I have a very high tolerance for stings... I worked beehives as a kid to pay for my dirt-bike repairs. I figured it was karma.
Since getting rid of the Bell Drifter I haven't had any issues.
I usually start the season with the windvest on, but it never lasts long. If I'm going to be riding for 4 hours or so, I'll put it on.

When I put it on, I want it off and, when I take it off, I want it on. lol I like the wind but damn, the bugs around here feel like you got shot in the forehead w/ a gun.
That's one of the reasons I like the FL style bikes. Dressed up or striped down, they don't look out of place. Well, that's my opinion as least.

had a detachable windshield for 3 years, never used it once, and sold it.
I never like the highway, they are boring and not made for motorcycles and ugly, I prefer freeways although they are more dangerous (or so the statistics say) , but I get to enjoy the view, and I never exceed 65M/H and enjoy the road.
If I want to arrive fast I have a Japanese car .
But I must admit that having a windshield crossed my mind in one long trip.
