Great plugs for cars and trucks... not the best design for motorcycles that feed the combustion mixture from the side.

Very interesting reply...and sounds "logical".

How do you set the "gap side" toward the intake valve?

It is technically called Indexing -
From the NGK site "Indexing refers to a process whereby auxiliary washers of varying thickness are placed under the spark plug's shoulder so that when the spark plug is tightened, the gap will point in the desired direction."

with a sharpie marker and index washers: google indexing spark plugs

not knockin handyhowards efforts or his sound logic but as they say "to each his own".

I'm an NGK fan myself but I think indexing is unnecessary

Thats sort of what I do for my Hot Rods. But you have to buy 12-16 plugs so you can index them to get 8 that line up right. PIA but worth it.

Much easier using indexing washers available from Jegs, Summit or Amazon.

I have to agree. Indexing is a PIA and unless you are racing it really won't make a bit of difference in normal riding . . . Just sayin'.

with the new EFI and the Lean condition that the bikes run, I don't even bother to change plugs. I have 8500 on the OEM set.

Not when your changing plugs every 1/4 to 1 mile. I always had 5-8 sets ready to go.
