S&S 570 cam

S&S 570 cam
There is an indy here that will install an S&S 570 cam , gear drive cam tensioners, and adjustable push rods for 1100.00. That sounds good to me since the HDealer just flat out said it couldn't be done, does anyone have any experience with that cam? They said I could keep my stock heads and not have to do any valve work. I did a little internets reading and some people have had issues with that cam but I noticed that all of them were in EFI bikes, mine is carbed so I am assuming it won't be problematic. The people that had problems all had them in idling and dropping out in low gears.

I would be nervous about coil bind with that much lift on stock springs. If your bike is the '03 in the picture, I don't believe you have the springs for that much lift. His price is good, but I'd be scared of a guy who thinks you can run .570 lift on those stock valve springs, or who thinks that cam is compatable with an otherwise stock engine. Those heads just don't flow with out a little work.

Me thinks U need to do some more research and reading about cams and maybe look at the dyno threads in the Touring and Softail section to see if they could help Ya.
U can over cam a HD motor just as U can a cager... U just can't throw in a big cam and expect to make big numbers, it takes more.
570 lift without doing more to the more could be a mess. A build has to be planned and all the parts work together.
U don't even say what U have, bike, motor,is it stock or what...
Gear drive Cam Tensioners. What is that?? Either U do a cam with Gears or a cam with spockets and chain that uses Tensioners. Two totally different cam set ups.
Check it out more before U spend a lot of $$$ and end up with what U don't like.

I agree with notgrownup and softailcustom99. Beef up the valve springs if you are going with that much lift. Roller rockers are also a good idea. While you are at it, go ahead and get the heads ported and polished. If your engine is stock, and you dont want to do any headwork yet, go with 510's or Andrews 37's.
