Default FLSTFB - A Tire Pressure Discussion

Just got back from the indy shop having the 1K service done. Other than there being almost no grease in the steering head (glad I negotiated out the setup fee since the dealer obviously didn't do it) everything is cool.

He did recommend running 42 psi in both tires. The book and tire say the max psi in the front is 36. I've always liked this guy and for the most part trust him. However I am concerned that this exceeds the spec in the manual.

What are you guys doing? Are there risks in running that pressure in the front?

I run 36psi front and rear on my FLSTFB and my FLHTCI. If I'm 2up on a road trip I will run 39psi in the rear.

I beleive the manual says...
Pressure ( Cold )
FLSTF - front .. 36psi.
rear .. 42psi.
I will stick with this. When you ride, tire warms up..air in tire warms up and expands.

I have been running 42/36. I'm a big fella. I think I am going back to that. I just don't feel comfortable exceeding the max psi.

You are correct, but air in the tire's expands (and) contracts depending on the altitude fluctuation and ambient temps over the course of a road trip.

This info came from my indy a while back, but I have found that depending on who you talk to it will vary a couple pounds on the recommendations.

Cool tire pressures

I'm running what the book recomends, but I put Nitrogen in mine and the pressures don't seem to fall off at all. last ride was 12-31-10 and it has been covered with the tender since . . . . . it's a Michigan thing.

You will feel every little tiny flaw in the road with 42psi in front.
Sounds a little high in back too.

40/36 in my heritage.

Other than there being almost no grease in the steering head .....
I hope he didn't pump your steering head too full of grease.
You'll be cleaning it off the front of your tanks for the entire next season.
It don't need to be packed full. I found out the hard way.

You are just turning left and right, and not very far.
It's not like that bearing is spinning at 1000 rpm, and don't need to be packed for that purpose.
