Get the fatboy. 6000 miles. Like brand new. It has the nacelle on it, passing lamps pipes, etc. Just ride it as it is until you get the money to change the things you want to change. There is no rush and it does not all have to be done at once. I am still changing things on my bike 6 years later.

No, no, no....! Your not paying attention. Harley Davidson has carefully orchestrated a series of events the first time Harley buyer must follow. They insist you follow this course and do not deviate. Your first bike needs to be a brand new Sportster. 883 or 1200, it doesn't matter much, because they are sure you will be ready to upgrade to a Softail within a matter of months. Ride the Sporty till August when the new models come out. Then simply drop it off at the dealer and ride your new Softail Deluxe home. Keep the Deluxe in the garage till next spring comes, ride it around a few times and hit the dealer often. All the saleman will have you convinced in no time that the Deluxe is all wrong for you and your riding needs, and will have the perfect Ultra Classic ready for you to take home. After you drop the behemoth Ultra a few times you'll be ready for the MOCO's forth and final phase of the new bike purchase. Go scope out the dechromed Dyna's. Pick out a flat black Fatbob or Streetbob. Do this and the last cycle will be complete, and you now will have bought your first Harley.

So I trailered the new bike home last night, did a little cruise today and I love it! It is awesome, the Fatboy was so much nicer in person than the pics. It is showroom, new condition. Runs like a champ.
I have a line on a set of Heritage wire take-offs with whitewalls and a Heritage front fender for $550. I figure if I sell what I have one there it should only end up costing me a couple hundred bucks out of pocket to make this bike look like a stripped down Heritage.
I think by the time I have pipes, bars and the new rims/fender this bike will be still be around $9500. That is much cheaper than I found any 04's with 6k miles. (and it will be exactly what I want)
