Default Anyone Sturgis Softail, know anything about it?

I put $2,000 down on a Softail today. I asked him if it was a standard or custom or what. He showed me the title. It said 1990 FXSTCST. He called it a Sturgis Cobalt Model, and claimed it was one of 1,500 ever made. He said 500 were sold at Stergis, and the other 1,000 were released as special order bikes from Harley. Does anyone know anything about this? Is this just a fast talker's sales tactic. He was trying to save his house. Some one else is giving me $3,000 for a 1985 Toyota Pick up tomorrow. He posted the bike locally for $5,000. I had $2,000 left from my tax return, and ran over, said F*&# the bills and gave hime $2,000 down and the other $3,000 tomorrow. I am worried I fell for some kind of scam. The numbers match the title, and the bike looks increadible, but does not have a special medallion on the tank. The bike seams too cheap for a Softail, let alone some kind of special model. I got a great deal for a 1990 Softail, but if this is really what he says, I finally had some really good luck for the first time in my life. I would like to know anything anyone knows about this model of bike. The model number's sure are strange.

Back around 1981, 1982 Harley made an FX Shovelhead model called the Sturgis. It was the first belt drive Harley as I recall, and black with red stripes around the mag wheels. Seems like the primary belts didn't hold up so well, but it also had a rear belt. It sure wasn't a Softail though. I don't know about that 1990 one but you might google it.

Never heard of it but I found a link that shows it was offered in 1981. You can read up on it here:http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1981-h...xb-sturgis.htm

That is an FXB looks like some kind of Dyna family. This is a Softail of some kind. This is the model numbers off the title.

FXSTCST

I have never seen this model numer before. I can't find anything online about that model number or a Sturgis Softail.

Thanks

Well, OK. Based on that, I would proceed very cautiously my friend.

Call the dealer and give them the whole vin number they can look up the bike and see exactly what it is. Any good service department should be willing to help you.

Five grand for a running softail sounds like a good buy. As long as the title is clear and all the numbers match you should be good to go.

Never heard of that model.
Take MCSarge's advice and talk to a dealer.

Run your VIN thru a Harley Vin decoder. Bet you a dollar you have an FXSTC and the state just screwed up on the title, and the seller was going with it. If it was a super rare scoot you would not have got it for 5K....but that is a great price for what you got.
