Anyone Sturgis Softail, know anything about it?

Yeah it will probably turn out to be just another Softail, but for $5,000 I am off my 2003 1200 Sportster. I paid the same price for the Sportster. Pretty funny really. The back tire is bald like someone was doing burnoffs. Other than that it is perfect. I will let you know what the dealership says.

You are probably right
Run your VIN thru a Harley Vin decoder. Bet you a dollar you have an FXSTC and the state just screwed up on the title, and the seller was going with it. If it was a super rare scoot you would not have got it for 5K....but that is a great price for what you got.

There were two series of Sturgis'. I can't say much about the second series. The first series was a Shovelhead and I believe the model was released in 1981. It is collectible. I have a friend that has the first one... the 'bike that saved Harley' designed by Willie G. I believe. The second edition has an evo engine and started in 1991. Both are based on the dyna wide glide.
That's it. There is no softail Sturgis that I have ever heard of and I wrote a whole series of articles for our local HOG newsletter about the history of the basic HD models (which is why I cringe when they call a new softail a 'new' bike, for example).
The guy is blowing you some smoke but that happens a lot in the HD world. He may not know that he's blowing it, but he is. All part of the 'legend' of HD.
Ride the bike, you like the looks, it checks out at legal then go for it. Who cares about the mystery 'sturgis'. Hey, I know... some custom shop sold it at the Ky. Sturgis rally... yeah, that's the ticket.
I believe that it is actually a Softail Custom from what I can see in the picture.
