Default Home-made trim for Heritage

Just once in a while I like to change things up and run my Heritage without the bags. I always thought the mounting bolts looked lousy sticking out alone, but haven't been able to find anyone selling a cover or trim piece - so I made one. Here is the prototype/mock-up. (shhh, don't tell, it's made out of oak)

It'll eventually be made of chromed billet aluminum. I slotted it to match the style of the brake lever/shifter lever. Gonna make the real thing at my Dad's airport hanger when I visit in a few weeks. They have a milling machine and machinists that like helping. (o:

So baring comments about my Heritage being (or having) a woody, what ya'all think? Ideas for a different shape or style?

I'm crushed! 67 views and not even a single comment like "that sucks." Where are all the critics? (o:

No really, it doesn't look bad. Might try to smooth it out a little on the ends to be more old looking. It is a Heritage.

How about something simple like these?

Or when I take my bags off, I just use a chrome allen-head bolt. Just sayin'...

Hey bro, they make caps that will go over those bolts and they are magnetic. They make them chrome or black.

I'm going to try to be easy, but it brings more attention to that area of your bike and when you do that it needs to be frikin incredible (such as wheels, bars, derby covers, pipes etc...). I think what you are after is to detour views in that area and thats what the magnetic caps do. If they don't fit your model, then make em. Just my opinion bro and because you asked.

I looked last night, and didn't want to discourage you. I don't like it at all (sorry) it looks like you put a level on the side.

I think it would look better if you rounded the edges and shortened it right around the bolts. Still not for me but maybe it'll look a little better.

Anyway it's not mine and if you like it then go for it. No hard feelings

Hey, no hard feelings at all - I appreciate your feedback, along with the others. I do see what you mean about looking like a level. I shoulda seen that, I HAVE a level I could have bolted on and that would have been easier to make than this thing.
However, the real piece looks better than the photo - it's tapered to match the fender rail, ends partially cut on a slant that matches the lay-back license plate, and held at distance by black painted brass shims. I think it will look loads better as a chrome item as planned - this is the mock-up after all.
Others suggested the magnetic bolt covers, and I'd looked at them but they cover docking bolts. I didn't think they'd fit over the long spindly bag bolts, have to double check that.
And - not really trying to draw attention away from that area with this, but more to cover the unused junky looking bolts that draw their own negative attention. I figure a shiny piece that serves no purpose except to hang there would be an easy fix.
In the end, it's a good reason to go see my dad and build something together. (o:
Thanks to all for your opinion.

Use the magnetic chrome covers, easier and looks cleaner.
