Default The wobble

It looks like a lot of people are getting speed and decel wobbles..
Could it just be cold weather?? Cold bearing grease and neck grease.
I just started getting one as well and it seams like it gets better after an hour or so of riding.

It is usually a steering head bearing that needs to be tightened, tire pressure or loose spokes.

Don't know about Harleys for sure, but alot of the vintage Jap stuff I've had would do the head shake bit if you had a tire that didn't have a tread groove that ran lengthways at least for part of the tread. And like Drew said, loose bearings, loose spokes and low tire pressures can cause it too.

My ride was smooth as hell until I swapped out the bars. Now I HAVE HEAD SHAKE at 25 to 40 mph >>>>> I checked the berrings but think it is the cables being to long but WTF do I know.

If we ever get above 30 again and the 4 inches of ice melts along with the 8 inches of snow,,, I might get to ride to see if the colder weather has an effect on her steering...

Did you change out the riser bushings with the new handlebars? That might be a possibility.

i had a problem with my 97 superglide this past summer. if you tried to accelerate from 60 mph the bike would start shaking violently. i was extremely disappointed with my bike...no fun riding. i talked to a guy from miricle mile harley on long island new york and he told me that if the wobble started during braking it was the front end, and if the wobble started during acceleration it was the rear end....i thought the guy was nuts. i wound up adjusting my rear shocks and the shakes went away....feels like a new bike.

Adjusted them how, was one shock adjusted alittle differently than the other?

no, they were the same....just needed to be stiffened up a lil bit. i just got the bike a couple of months before the problem started, so i really never set it up for me...just rode it how i got it. i was going on a little road trip with a buddy and i put my saddle bags on and a t-bag on the back....it was pretty loaded up, plus i'm a big guy.....anyway. i took out my spanner wrench and put the shocks on the hardest setting to compensate for the x-tra weight and off we went. at that point it was the most fun i had riding the bike since i got it.....no wobble. when we got back i took off all of the baggage and took it for a blast on the same setting. to my surprise the wobble ceased to exist....then i remembered what the guy from harley said. i still have no wobble but i think i will spring for a new set of progressives this winter. if your shocks are adjustable there will usually be a series of holes on the bottom collar. use a spanner wrench to turn one way or another. the more you compress the spring the stiffer the ride will be.
