Default 1st Bike, questions; normal?

I just got my first bike, a 2011 Fat Boy Lo with V&H 2 into 2 pipes, S/E Air and race tuner. I know squat.

It is brand new. It had nine miles from the dealer. I took it around my place to mix some Stabil in the gas. It now has eleven miles.

I notice it smells like something burning. There was also a little smoke coming from the front right. I assume this is just the heat burning off some oil or cleaning products or whatever from the dealer/factory. Does that sound right?

When I stop, I hear "crackling" on the right side which starts out somewhat consistently and then fades as it cools. I assume this is normal too. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I'd say it's new exhaust burn-off & break-in. Gotta get those pipes heated up on a longer trip & things should quiet down...enjoy the new scoot!

The noise after you turn it off is normal. It is the engine cooling down.

If it didn't make noise while cooling down, I'd be worried.

Smell is normal (new), and crackling when cooling is it's trademark. Look where the smoke is coming from though to make sure everything is alright. Dealer told me to go through 3 full heat cycles which is full hot (running) then let cool before starting again in the break-in proceedure.

You will luv ur new ride man!

Thank you all very much. I am relieved. I have a bad track record with new purchases (I usually get burned) so I was more than a little worried. Sounds like all is normal but I will watch for where the smoke is coming from. Can't wait till the snow melts off the roads so I can get after it.
