I love my Heritage Classic, but I was ticked when the dealer quoted almost $200 for an oil change - regular oil, not synthetic.
Claims there is 2 hours of labor involved. I told him I don't want the bike checked out, just the oil changed. 2 hours of labor?
Am I nuts, or is this somewhat extreme for a simple oil change?

That fair enough?

I guess the real answer is, if people are willing to pay than it is not overpriced.
I don't begrudge anyone for making money and if that is the price that they think they can get, it is the price they should charge. That said, I won't pay it because of two reasons, 1. I have the tools and know how to do the work, and 2. I'm not stupid enough to think that the dealer is my friend. They are in business to make money, Harley does not make it easy since they keep their prices high. They are easy enough to work on, get a few good tools and a jack and you're half way there.

we have 4 dealers in the san antonio area-you probably have a few within a reasonable ride. get on their e-mail lists for specials...someone usually has an oil change for a good price. next month somebody has 20% off on certain accessories. few weeks later a different one had free tire mounting if you bought it from them.

oil change
oil 3 quarts regular 20 /50 =18.00 one oil filter chrome =13.00 one quart of red line tranny fluid=18.00 o rings if needed 2.00= total $51.00 thats at retail price. the dealer will go by what is listed in the book if it has two hours he will charge you for two hours even if it takes one hour. to be fair to do all three oil primary and tranny one hour labor would be working on the bike and not fooling around. to do this right the bike should be hot when drained and driven a few miles after filling and then topped off. so $50.00 for oil and filter tranny fluid. one hour labor at $80.00 =130 dollars but i doubt you will find a dealer who will do this for one hour labor. at an hour and a half =120 for labor ad 50 parts =170 dollars. the bottom line is your paying over a hundred dollars for labor for an fluid change. if you do nothing to your bike at all learn how to change the fluids it will pay off in the end .
