Default new pipes on fatboy... need advice

hi everyone. having a problem.

'01 fatboy (efi). stage 1, se air filter kit, stock pipes.

i want new pipes but dont know what i want!!!!! quite a pain in the ***, actually. i decided i loved how the v&h big radius pipes looked, but im not thrilled with the sound. im looking for the really deep, low bass-like rumble and the big radius pipes just dont do it. this is almost as hard as buying new bars with only catalog pictures to help you choose! if anyone has any input, i would really appreciate it. and by the way, im not looking to break windows as i roll through town. i believe too much is just annoying. thank you in advance!

Hey there JJD228

I just installed the SEII's with the advise of many on
this web site and they sound realy good. Not too loud
if you back of the throttle and just loud enough when you
need to be heard.

My first time around I did the Stage one and the SE2 slip-ons. I loved the sound - nice roar with plenty of low-end. I set off many car alarms wihh the slip-ons.

I've since put on the Screaming Eagle pipes. I love them - plus, no burnned ankles!
Thesed are plenty loud and have a very full sound.

I've heard many different set-ups, and what I'm running with now is the ticket.

Get the Screaming Eagle pipes man - you'll love them.

Tuned Hooker 2 into 1. Nice low growl and neat rumble when you back off the throttle. No more ratty *** blatting like my old V&H Big Shots. Nice little HP bump also, according to the dyno.

When I bought my Springer, the dealer recommended the SE2's. I really didn't know what I wanted at the time, but I am glad that I got them and I like the sound. I don't know anything about the other exhaust systems out there, but I am happy with the sound that mine make and that's good enough for me.

Stay away from the wide mouth after market pipes for the Fatboy. I had to switch pipes 6 times at the dealers expense because the pipes turned blue, gold, and backfired as soon as they were put on. I'm talking Screaming Eagle pipes. There's a set of SE pipes for the Fatboy that are very similar in diameter and appearance to the OEM pipes. Those are the ones that I finally wound up with, and they are awesome. No gold, blue or misfires as of yet, and I bought the bike new in 03. Naturally, this may not apply to you because your bike is an 01. LOL.

Thunderheaders......the only way to go. At idle, they are surprisingly quiet....you can actually have a conversation with the person standing next to you, but when you open them up on the road, they rattle windows everywhere. Plus, they are at the top of the food chain when it comes to performance.....I bumped my hp up by almost 10 ponies when I put them on. Bought them through Ebay.....got a great deal.
