Fat Boy wiring

RE: Fat Boy wiring
The problem is the coating on the wires are cracked , the plug in's are all corroded. Brother in law called Harley, the "lady" at the other end said, the wires were defefective from the original vender in 1993. My Brother in law asked about a recall, she said there were no recalls, and, the supply of 93 wiring harnesses was getting small. He asked her why would he want to buy a harness that was defective in 93 AGAIN. She said well then, have it custom wired, end of conversation.

I will have to check but I believe you can buy a later softail harness and make it work. There are also aftermarket harnesses available as well. For ease, if orginality isn't a primary concern, the thunderheart electronic wiring harness will fit just about anything and retain all stock functions as well as add a few nice features.

Bikes that old can expect the possibility of needing some rewiring, regardless the model softail, or the brand for that matter.
The '90 heritage I had a few years back, had all wiring completely redone by the previous owner.. Everything. What hadn't just dry-rotted was rusted and just plain shot. It's inevitable with copper wiring exposed to the elements. Nothing like fresh new wiring.. New wiring is like a day on the farm. Good luck...
Service manual.. good thing to have.. shows the wiring in fairly good detail.
