Just push on it with your foot until it's all the way over. I mount using the floorboard on the right side and dismount the same way, stand has never failed.

Well, it is I guess. The last time was in the garage, I had the front end cranked to to the right so I could get my oil pressure sendding unit out. I got up and walked over to the bench to get something and it swung around to the left but stayed upright. It's usually when I need the bike upright as much as possible to do something underneath on the left side. The HD center stand I ordered will make it easier to work on it, especially when cleaning the rear wheel.

I do this as well as pulling back as the stand sets in place.

My buddy dumped his dyna because he didn't have his all the way forward. He knew what he did and has never had it fall again. I kick mine all the way forward then rock it back and then forward a little to make sure it's engaged. It scared the begeezers out of me when I first got the bike, but I've never had an issue.
