Tips on removing the plastic fender liner under the seat...
I'm getting ready to switch to a solo seat on my Fattie. When I pulled off the stock seat to see what's what I noticed an ugly, clear plastic "film" lining the rear fender. Obviously it's there to keep the underside of the seat-pan from scratching the paint. I want to remove it without damaging the paint. Any ideas how to do this? Any ideas for what to line the stock seat with afterwards, in case I want to put it back on for two-up riding? Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

If it won't come off relatively easy, try swiping your wife or GF's high powered blow dryer or a heat gun (the kind used for shrink tubing) on it to soften up the glue. That's the easy way to get the factory tape "pin" strips off the side of cars and trucks. The paint can handle a lot more heat then the plastic tape and glue. Just be careful not to get a case of the stupids and leave the heat in one spot too long or you'll cook it.
Start heating in one end till it softens and start working it off as you move the heat. It should come off fairly easy without leaving any of the glue behind.

I did'nt have as much luck when I removed mine, Everyone described it as a colorform type of film but when I pulled mine off the adhesive stayed on my fender. What a pain in the **** it was to get off, I ended up using a rag soaked with wd40 to soften it and pick it off a little at a time. I lined the bottom of my stock seat with a thin black carpet type covering for speaker cabinets. it works great for when I have to put the "old lady seat" on.[sm=smokin.gif]

I made that mistake once putting a bag on my sissy bar without realizing that wet and loaded it would hang down to touch the fender.
When I went on an 80 mile ride in the rain with a couple of hundred other bikes for a 911 ride the dirt/water got under it and scratched hell out of my fender. Fortunatly I was able to clean it up, but if it had gone much farther it would have needed to be repainted. That's the primary reason I went out the next day to order the rack. Now I can put things back there without worrying about the paint.
