Default Keep stock cables but want different bars?

I have an 03 Fatboy and would like to keep the stock size cables but put some different bars on. Preferably something black in a mini ape style or anything differnet besides stock. I dont mind doing wiring just dont want new cables. Any suggetsions on what bars work with stock cables? Thanks

You can use everything (cables, wiring, even brake line) from the Fatboy with Dyna Wide Glide stock bars (about 10" rise) and with stock Heritage bars (little less rise, more pullback)

I put the wide glide bars on my fatboy and love them. Match up almost exactly with some aftermarket "baby apes" that my father in law put on his Heritage.

You do have to kind of straighten out the hard line coming out of the master cylinder for the front brakes, but it bends easily by hand.. Just don't get carried away.

Just a quick note, I replaced my stock bars with a set of 1 1/4" bars for a RK. The new bars have a 16" pull back and a 6" rise vs the stock 9" PB and 4 3/4" rise. This worked for me because I already had +6" cables installed. Your stock dimensions are: 31.5" wide, 13.5" base width, 4.75" rise, and 9" pull back. Stock Harley number is 55958-01.
If you use these dimensions and pick a bar close to the net total in dimension as stock you should be fine. Also here is a link of dimensions for Harley bars, however there are several other manufactures of quality bars or even e-bay if your carfeful. Remember don't do something twice if you don't have to even if that means changing out cables and brake lines to really get the bars you want.
Cheers and ride safe!http://www.harley-davidson.com/pna/p...bmLocale=en_US

Very good point on not having to do the same job twice. Thanks for the dimensions, i guess i will take a look and see what is out there. Cables seem so expensive for what they are IMHO.

Have one break about 100 miles from home and you'll gain a whole new appreciation for what they do. Don't try to save a couple of bucks by over extending them, and keep them lubed.

BRAD2064 - check out the cables from Drag Specialities, much cheaper than the HD brand cables. Dr. V-Twin (on site here) can probably hook you up.

Does anyone know or think the new Carlini Bag Drag bars would fit. The 1.5" version? Thanks

If it is the original T-Bar it should, however the street bar or freeway bar will require 1.5" risers, Clean Sweep or super Sweep should fit as well. I am assuming you mean these bars.

Best bet is to give them a call and see what they say. Remember they want thier bars on your bike and any reputable company wants a happy customer.

Not sure about the Carlini drag bars but I threw a set of HD Street Slammers on mine and the cables worked out fine. I had three dealers tell me I needed all new cables and so on but a few members on here got it right and said NO.The break cable is a little long ( an 1" or so) and I am going to replace it someday but it works fine for now.
I was also going to go with Carlini but got my Street Slammers on here in the classified section for 150.00 shipped in perfect condition. A lot better than the 300+ price HD wants and I like them alot.

Chiefe- the bars are under the bagger bars section on there website, not the ones in your link.
