New apes
These are the apes that I will be getting from Dr. V twin.
I plan to use my stock risers and bar clamp.
First question, what length cables do I need?
(I plan on going with Magnum cables)
The bars are listed as 17".
My stock Heritage bars measure 10".
I can only assume that if I go +8 over stock, that should work fine.
Can anyone confirm my guestimation?
Also, what else do I need to complete the job:
new bushings
wiring extension
brake fluid
Thanks all

Very nice looking set of bars, if you decide you need +8 Magnums I have a set that I’m selling for cheap (new in the box, pm me if interested). As far as a list of what you will need;
Cables
Shop manual
Tranny & primary oil
wire extensions & shrink wrap
Durby cover gasket
Clutch cover gasket
Primary inspection gasket
O rings for the drain plugs (primary&trans)
4 dot brake fluid or whatever fluid your bike takes
New riser bushings (alloy art goodin tights)
Zip ties
Shop towels
A large heavy duty set of snap ring pliers (harbor freight tools)
String to help run your wiring harness thru the bars.
Electrical tape
I might have missed something but in a nut shell this is what you will need, everyone’s list varies. Just did my bars so this list is still fresh in my mind. Make sure you have all your supplies and parts before you start your project. Good luck..

Drew should be able to tell you, but I don't think +8 will be enough, but I hope so for Santo's sake
That list Santo posted is pretty spot on too it looks like.....Especially with the Gooden tite bushings. I got some for the Crossbones (a lot less options out there for springer riser bushings) but they are of really good quality. I had a HD tech install them while the bike was in for service because I happenned to have them in the wife's truck when I dropped off the bike for service. The service writer asked to keep the box because he wanted to get all the info on them.
The only other comment I have for Santo's list is the string for running the wires. You may want to get some small chain from Home Depot, there is a video of Bill from BR Customs running wires that way and it seems to work well.
Those bars are going to look great on your ride.

Get the set of cables that Santo has, they are perfect and his price is really low. +8" for those bars. Poly riser bushings and wiring extension as well. That should be it. If you are wiring internally which I know you are, some sheathing to cover teh wires inside the bars and where they enter and exit the bars.
That's it!

Great guys, thanks for the feedback.
I do have the shop manual for my bike, first thing I ever buy for a new bike.
I also have a pretty good selection of tools so I think I'm good there.
Not that this is a "winter mod" here in SoCal but I'm gonna take my time.
Looking forward to doing this myself, first time doing any kind of wiring on a bike.

It's not difficult, just time consuming. We'll be ehre to help. Here is a write up from the Dyna section on an ape install.
Taking apart the deustch connectors is easy. Just make sure to get all the wires back in the right place.

Thanks Santo
I'm looking at going with the Magnum Sterling Chromite II.
Is that what you have?
I will need a matching set of all three items:
Front brake line
Control cables
Clutch cable
If this is what you have, please send me a quote via PM and we can work out the details.
Also, why didn't you use them?
That is a great link, thanks Drew.
I know you guys will be here to help as I get closer to doing the install.
