'02 Fatboy rear tire question

It's not like an '04! Starting in '03 when the 150 became standard the rear caliper (which is actually an axle spacer too, was .100 narrower and the left side axle spacer was .100 wider. That of course, moved the wheel .100 to the right to allow for more clearance for the wider tire. You'll also find the rear fender hardware for the struts was changed too. Harley sold a wide tire kit that incorporated the new spacer, caliper, etc. for '2000-2002 Softies. Like Drew said, you can usually fit a 150m.m. tire on them with out the change, but that's the difference.

First off each manufacturer has their own set of what is acceptable for labeling a tire size... for instance a 150/70 Metzler 880 is not 150 it is closer to 140 but falls within tolerances for Metzler... On the other hand Pirelli's Night Dragon 150/70 is on the large size of 150... etc etc. A Metzler 160/60 will fit in the space of a 150/70 because of their propensity to be on the small side of what they are actually marked and sold at... one must level the playing field before choosing a size in any brand of tire.

Yes, the 150m.m. tire will fit the 3 1/2" rim just fine. The offset of the '00 -'02 wheel is different than '03 and later, but that affects the tires clearances on the bike. It's the proper size rim for the 130m.m. through 150 m.m.

Tire
Does anyone know if I can fit a 140 on the rear of my '02 Fatboy? Stock is a 130 but I would really like to go as big as I can with out modding it right now since I can't afford the wide tire mod kit just yet. Thanks in advance

My Indy did this for my 01 FXST,
1 - Shaved a bit of the brake Caliber and centered the wheel using correct washers.
2 - Mounted a 150 Dunlop or 160 Metz under it (both will fit and same width but if you ask me, too wide, a Metz 150 will look better).
It is a couple hours of shop work but well worth it as from the factory the wheel is slightly offset.
