'02 Fatboy rear tire question
#11
First off each manufacturer has their own set of what is acceptable for labeling a tire size... for instance a 150/70 Metzler 880 is not 150 it is closer to 140 but falls within tolerances for Metzler... On the other hand Pirelli's Night Dragon 150/70 is on the large size of 150... etc etc. A Metzler 160/60 will fit in the space of a 150/70 because of their propensity to be on the small side of what they are actually marked and sold at... one must level the playing field before choosing a size in any brand of tire.
My guess is that most manfucturer's are correct, but Dunlop is just a bit large.
Each manfucturer will list the 'true' width of the tire on their site.

Mu bike had a 150 Dunlop when I bought it (2002 fatboy) and I put on a 150 Metzeler as well when i had stock wheels. The strut bilts ahd been ground down so that there was no extra bolt sticking out past the nut for the strut bolt. Nothing was turned around. Never had an issue related to this.
