I have had my 07 FXSTC since the last day of August and its got nearly 1000 miles on it now. But its always done exactly the same things.
The starter scared the crap out of me the first time I started it up to ride it home from the dealer. Even though this is MY first Harley. I have ridden a couple of other Harley's in the past and they seemed to perform a similar "crashing" when you hit the starter button. I think its just a big *** starter motor trying to turn over a lot more metal than any of the Japanese bikes I'm used to.
The headlight seems to be something that we may have to learn to live with. Or pull the mountings apart to pull out some of the rubber to make it more "solid". Only problem with that idea is I'll bet it starts eating bulbs without the shock absorbing qualities of the rubber bushings.

Mine starts like you decribe, but not as bad as it did at first. From what I've read from other post this is normal for the 07 B.T. I haven't noticed any problem with the headlights.

By the way, welcome to the Forum.

I just bought an '07 fxstc and mine had the loud back or clunk in the primary housing when I started it. I then had a couple of no starts where the starter just spins but the motor does not turn over. Took the bike in for its 1000 mike check and lo and behold, the starter pinion gear and clutch housing are trashed. The dealer is replacing both under warranty. The cause seems to be broken teeth on the clutch housing. Take your bike in quick and get it fixed before you get stuck simewhere!! By the way, you will probably have to wait a while for new parts, they seem to be backordered. GO figure!

I haven't had the problem with the starter but the headlight is normal. The can is mounted on rubber and it is designed to bounce. After a while (years) the rubber will get a little harder and not bounce as much. I look at it as a safety thing, cagers notice that bouncing headlight a lot quicker than not.
