Time to rewrap the V&H baffles - ideas?
Hello - I've got the quiet baffles installed in the V&H staggered Big Shots on my Night Train. Well, they were quiet a few years ago, but have slowly gotten louder and I am sure due to the packing disintegrating.
V&H tech support says this is likely the case as well and recommends re-wrapping the baffles. Does anyone have any recommendations on high temp baffle material that will quiet the system down again? Not to stock levels, but I need to take the edge off when I am riding on longer trips two-up or cruising by the local law enforcement officials who have been starting to make a lot of noise about pipes around here.
Thanks!

Thanks - I check that out. I have an e-mail into V&H to see if they sell it. Didn't see it on their site. Also found this baffle wrapping on e-bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/10-x-...item1e5f97edcf

My suggestion is to use Google to find a mechanical insulation distributor in your area. This would be a company that sells insulation and associated materials for use on pipe, tanks, and equipment. Tell them you are looking for a high temperature blanket type insulation and they might be able to help you. Does anyone know how hot the fiber blanket inside a muffler actually reaches? I work in the mechanical insulation industry so that is why this occurred to me.

Armorup,
Did this several times in the past. Look around your area for a local shop that fabricates custom mufflers and exhaust systems for cars. They will most likely have some sort of packing material which is nothing more than strips of spun fiberglass. Pull your baffles out, remove the old material, re-wrap them and use a thin gauge metal wire to hold the material in-place.
