Default Cheap Mod: Chrome Dash Panel Extension, painted (pics)

I put this on last year as is and always thought it would look better if the "stripes" were black to match the dash. Well today I resisted the urge to ride all day and did this instead.

Where I started:


And then masked (this is the most time-consuming part):


And painted, with semi-gloss black:


Came out pretty good:


And on the bike:


Much better, in my opinion!

Hey strummer, did you just use regular maskin tape to do the outlining? that puppy looks real good, almost like its supposed to be that way. Good job

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

I used 3M blue painters tape. Low tack makes it easy to apply/remove, and it's very flexible. Plus they sell it in various widths, which, with the semi-gloss black paint, I had leftover from when I did the points cover and derby cover a while ago:

Looks 100% better, great job!!!
Doing mods like this and then posting it here with pics makes this place the best place in the Harley World to learn new and better tricks to mod your bike, once again great job.

Is there a specific type of Paint you used. Ive used High Temp paint on covers but dont know what brand to use on cosmetic parts. Got any suggestions? Im gonna use the semi-gloss like you did, just needin to know what brand you used? Help is appreciated
