Default Oil leaking from clutch adjuster?

Im currently in the process of installing my new handle bars on my 06 Luxe when I noticed some oil leaking from the clutch adjuster. I haven’t changed out the new clutch cables yet. Why would it be leaking what looks like tranny fluid? Has this happen to any of you?

Gotta ask what you are calling clutch adjuster. Is is the cable in the front of the downtubes of the frame? Or where the cable enters the tranny. If it is in front it is most likely from lubing the cable---not a bad thing with the right lube for the right cable. If it is at the tranny there is an O-ring there. Best be careful with this one or you might snap it off. Also best done as you replace the cable.

Yeah the adjuster Im talking about is the one in front of the down tubes, sorry. I have never lubed the cables and its not a few drops its a small puddle. Is it possible that the tranny oil is working its way up the cable?

Your tranny holds one quart of oil/lube. Check the level in the tranny for it to get that high it would have to be way overfull. Next ? would be where did the oil come from to overfill tranny. I've heard of engines and primaries "sharing" fluids but never with a tranny.

Yes tranny oil does work it's way into the cable, that's natural. This is how I discovered that my clutch cable casing had a break in it. Has your adjuster loosened up so much that the oil is coming out there?

No the adjuster is still tight I havent messed with it. The little rubber boot that covers the adjuster had oil in it also. Im just waiting for my new cables to arrive so I can remove the tranny cover.

Did you lay the cable down, while it is still connected in the clutch release cover? Whereby the adjuster and boot are or were below the clutch release cover.
As I said, tranny fluid works its way down the clutch cable, naturally through gravity.

artlee- good post...thats the only thing I could think of that would make sense, but the cable would probably have to be laying in that postion for awhile
