Default Does anyone pull the plug at the bottom of the engine for an oil change?

Just wondering, I switched over to SYN 3 and I don't think you're supposed to mix oils. Even after draining the oil tank, I'm sure (at least I think) that there must be some old oil down in the engine sump.

Has anyone pulled the plug at the bottom of the case and if so, did a lot more oil come out?

Trying to decide if it's worth it or not.

If you're referring to the oil -drain- plug, yes, every time I change fluids.

If you're not using the drain plug, how are you getting oil out?

Its easier to drain the oit if you remove the drain plug. Another hint for you is, it's easier to add fuel if you remove the gas cap

Now just don't ask where to place either the plug or cap after removing them!

The plug in the bottom of the engine case should NOT be pulled as a routine thing. It's not where oil is drained. It's a pipe plug and repeated use can cause you many problems.

Mixing oil brands is no big deal. Don't worry about it.

The OP is refering to the plug in the crankcase, not the oil tank. Most who have pulled the plug in the crankcase have had trouble replacing it leak free without cracking the cases. It is a tapered thread like is used in plumbing pipe. My advice is don't pull that plug unless you are diagnosing a problem such as "sumping".
Also nevermind the snide remarks from people that haven't actually read your question.

Mixing engine oils doesn't create the same problems, as say, mixing brake fluid or coolant in water cooled vehicles. I don't care how much you get out, you can't get it all. I wouldn't worry about it. I have to ask also, how are you getting it out without removing the drain plug? You mentioned draining the tank, however I've never heard of anyone doing it that way.

Guys, I'm not talking about the drain plug that drains the oil tank, I'm talking about the pipe plug at the bottom of the case.

Ed, thanks, but I'm not worrying about mixing brands, I was thinking that it's not good to mix regular oil with synthetic.

Just trying to figure out now much of the old oil is left in the sump that doesn't get drained when you just drain the tank.

Do you actually change your own oil, or do you have the dealer do it?

Can't believe you've never seen the pipe plug I'm talking about.
