Default Stage One and gas mileage

Brought this up on another thread and I'm curious. I have a '07 Deluxe. Have added some show and comfort goodies but the engine and exaust are stock. Thinking about going stage one but am wondering how it will affect my gas mileage. I get 48-51 mpg solo now and about 45 two-up. I know there are trade-offs in almost everything just want to know what those trade-offs are likely to be. Is the performance that much better? Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Bike runs really lean from the factory. You'll be richening up the mixture so you'll get a little less MPG but the bike will run much cooler. You'll notice a performance difference too. All in all...I think it's worth the mpg trade off. I mean you only put a max of 5 gallons in each fill up anyway. So what if you get an avg of 43 instead of 48 mpg.

I went to stage one this spring, and noticed a little power gain, but it's not gonna be like a brand new bike. A lot depends on what you do for fuel management. I only went with the hd download. As far as gas millage, I really don't think you'll notice much difference. If you take advantage of the power increase, you'll burn a little more, but if you take it easy I doubt you'll notice a change. After my 103 and cams, I think I actually might have gained a little millage. Either way, just ride and fuel it up when it's empty...

I did stage one and lost about 3 or 4 mpg. It was worth it.

I've read alot of posts about dismal gas mileage after putting a fm on.

I'm running Rush 1.75 slipons and K&N 3309 AC on a stock bike and I haven't noticed any decrease in gas mileage. More importantly my oil temps haven't increased either. Bike runs fine.

My wife has a stock 08 Deluxe with only Rush 1.75s on it and we both have oil temp gauges. We're always the same temp +or- a couple degrees. Actually, they were the same even before she added the slipons. And we recently went on a long roadtrip together and used the same amount of gas. Darn low fuel light came on at almost the same time. Go figure.

I was reluctant to add an AC to my bike because of the common notion that you need a fuel manager. But after reading an article online that the Delphi systems in our bikes can adjust for it I gave it a shot while fully expecting my pipes to turn yellow from the heat. Didn't happen.

Not saying that a fm wouldn't improve the performance of the bike, or isn't desirable, just that it doesn't seem necessary from my experience.

My bike 'popped' after the Rush 1.75s were on there for awhile (guess the packing was burning out). When I changed the A/C to stage one it popped a lot worse. Installed the PC-V and everything changed for the better. Popping is gone and power seems to be much better.

I did a stage-1 and get about 44 mpg. The performance gain and the bike running cooler are well worth it.

If your worried about gas mileage you probably should not do it.

That said I did a stage one with V&H Double Barrels, SE Heavy Breather, TTS and custom dyno tune.

The bike gets a little more mpg according to the reserve mile to empty calculator.

But the bike pulls as hard in 6th as it did in 5th before. Very happy with stage one mods.
