Default Am I missing a part on my front axle?

This may sound like a stupid question but here goes....

I just bought an 05 softail night train. I was looking at the front wheel the other day and thought it looked like something was missing. Following the axle from one side to the other through the spoke wheel flows like this: nut, throught fork, through brake rotor, through wheel, through fork and then nothing....

There is a fairly good sized whole through the axle where it looks like a pin of some kind would go through to prevent the fork from slipping off the axle, however there is nothing there. Am I crazy or is there supposed to be something there to keep the fork on?

Thanks,

FMC

Like this?

Got a bell hanging from mine.

This hole (on the right side) is used to tighten or loosen front axle. Put a screwdriver in the hole to keep axle in place while tightening/loosening (50-55 ft-lbs). Use 7/16 drill bit in the hole for spacing of right axle.

Awesome, thanks! I was worried the wheel was going to come off for a lack of a pin or something.

I'll try to figure out the pics thing soon.

Thanks again,

FMC
