Default Softail fork pinch bolt! Need mass brute force!

I am doing my steering head and the left side fork pic bolt is so gosh darn tight that I cannot get it budge even with brute force. I sprayed it with WD40 and will let it sit for a bit. I f else fails I'll get a long piece of pipe for the end of my wrench for leverage. And some PB Blaster too. This is my only project for the day. It looks like it will take a while.

I got the other side pinch bolt loose. Suggestions? I tried a bigger hammer already.

The pinch bolts on my Duece are torx T-50. I've had luck using an inpact driver on torx bolts and screws. If it was me I'd heat the bolt a little and then spray penetrating fluid on the bolt. A couple quick hits on the driver may loosen the bolt. I've done this to loosen rotors.

The deuce is different as it has an FX front end. If I were willing to take off the headlight and all the fork tins I could get a socket on it, but that is not in the cards today. Just did that last week and you have to cut all the headlight connections and recrimp when done.

Those pinch bolts should only be torqued to 35ft lbs max...sounds like they might be a tad bit too tight .

I'd say best bet it to just remove the tins and hit it with a socket and breaker bar...pain in the **** but it'll get it done.

Mine was the same way and I ended up breaking the bolt off in the triple tree. So be careful with the breaker bar.

Thanks for the info. I got a ratcheting 5/8" wrench and some PB blaster. Waiting on the PB to penetrate. The other was not too bad.

It is a sad day indeed when I cannot get a bolt to give. I am too lazy to take the front apart today. This will have to wait for another day. I ahve to say that I don't think this bolt has ever been taken off before. Hmmm...maybe that is why my steering head is so loose.

I hate when what seems to be the simplest of jobs turns into a nightmare over something like a bolt being stuck.I feel your pain Drew, just kills the whole positive vibe of doing your own work. Its like Murphys Law

I Just did a fall-away adjustment on Mine and they were Tight 2
I used a Boxend wrench and it worked better than a ratchet
AND You'll need a new Flat washer under the Triple tree nut --2
took it fur a ride today and NO rattle over the Bumps , same roads

Sometimes a propane tourch will heat the head of the bolt enough to help break it loose without disscoloring the chrome also some good taps with a big hammer and a block of wood or rubber on the head of the bolt to shock it helps too.
