Rattling key hole cover
So does anyone else have this problem? I have an 03 Fatboy and the metal flap that covers the key hole flaps about 1/4 inch when the bike is running. It doesnt hold snug up against the housing. Has anyone else had this problem? any remedies? when riding i constantly look down at the engine thinking there maybe something wrong. thanks

Surely it can only be 1 of 3
Surely it can only be 1 of 3 things wrong. 1/The pin for the latch has slid out a small amount and let the forward part of the hinge come out. If that is the case push the pin back in with a small punch. It need to be staked lightly to stay in on some. 2/The small latch that faces down is broke off. It's junk then. 3/ The two wire springs in the hole that the latch snaps into has trash in it. I worked on one with problem 1 and another with problem 3. The one with problem 3 had a small pin that had come up out of the circle in the key hole and rolled back into the hole.

$300 !
I have seen them at J&P for a lot less... but then you are not going to have the same key...
I don't have the problem (yet) with mine...but was thinking what if you put one or two self-adhesive felt stickers
they sell them at hardware stores to put on the bottom of knick-nacks so they dont scratch stuff...
just a cheep idea... might work might not

Narrowing it down
Cheese is correct about $40 part. Simple replace of pull dash, unplug, unscrew and replace. However I think you can take a paper clip and using a pair of pliers bend you a very small hook on it for a tool. Drop a couple drops of liquid wrench in the hole and use the hook to catch one of the spring wires and pull it to its mate and then do the other one the same way. If you look down on the side with the latch open you can also see a hole that allows access the the two spring wires. Then make sure the small latch pin really has that arrow head look. (If you grab it between your two finger and pull them off you will fill the hook at the end if it has not broken off)
