Ok, dumb question: I've been seeing more and more riders lately who clip a dog leash looking rope on the end of their handle bars. Why? Is it a functional thing (what function?), a symbolic thing (symbolizing what?), or an aesthetic thing? I can no longer contain my curiosity...thanks.

They don't..... Purely decoration.. No other purpose

 

Watch out in Cali... My cousins all roll with them but they are supposedly now a felony weapons charge if its not bolted on. Law made after the mongols bust. Supposedly since you can take it off and swing it with the metal end it is a deadly weapon. If you do put one on, just drill a hole through the metal clamp and your lever and put a bolt through it. If it can't come off they can't charge you with it being a weapon. They pulled over my boy for this and fullerton and tried to arrest him but he was with a few of my other buddies who are officers so they let him off with a warning.
