How many miles per tank do you get?

For a newer bike w/ 6speed, anyone know optimal speed range for best mpg? At about 72mph for 100miles I'm getting 44mpg with the wind and only about 37 against. Have a stage I that I thought made mileage a little better, but these numbers seemed a little low to me, I think worse than pre-stage. Thoughts?

I get 174 mi on my '04 FLSTC before I go to reserve. I've yet to have the stones to test the range of the reserve. Any ideas? Also, I have never seen the fuel light come on. Do I have one? If so, when should it come on? Sorry, not trying to jack the thread but have been curious.
Thanks,
Brian

My low fuel light usally comes on around 180miles, the count down starts at 35 miles to go. I've rode that down to 18 miles to go in the red before, that's the only time I'll ever push it that fare. Most of my riding is highway in the mounings and back roads, Tx hill country after work heading back home.

'08 Heritage FLSTC with possibly a Stage 1 upgrade but not sure and not quite sure what I should be getting since I just got this bike about a month ago used.
But on my present tankful of gas so far I have about 102 miles on the odometer and the fuel gauge is showing a split hair above the 1/4 mark. Maybe I'll get 120-140 miles from this tankful. Not very good for a bike with 5 gallon capacity. But it has been a lot of local riding and not much highway so I'll wait and see what the future holds.
