Default Looking at ape hangers

I currently have the standard 10inch hangers (2010 softail custom). Looking at either going drag bars or going 14inch ape hangers. My question is, are ape hangers comfortable to ride with or not. They look the business.

I just went from drag bars to 16"
apes. It made a world of difference.
Will never go back to drag bars.

I have 17 inch apes on mine, it's comfy sitting on the bike grabing the them for an hour. haven't had the chance to ride the bike with the apes yet, I keep pushing the start button but nothing happens.

I dont know. It's really a matter of your size, how high, pullback, and how you sit. I know that doesn't answer $hit, but I had the same questions.

I actually went from drag bars to the 10" mini's from a street bob to see if I liked ape's. I guess the verdict is that I do, but my back was getting really sore on an all day trip to the grand canyon awhile back.

An inch either way seems a make a difference. Sit on it, close your eyes, hold your hands out where they're most comfy. Have the ol' lady measure for width, hieght, and pullback...

9 out of 10 will say they will never go back and the higher the better...BUT...if tall ape's were really the ticket to comfort, Goldwings and Ultra's would come with 'em stock.

All that said...they look cool and I'll probably be going with some Burly 14's now that I've tried on my "training ape's", lol.

i ride with mini apes and cant wait to go a little bigger. with apes you get the old skool look as well as a more comfortable ride in my opinion. you are gonna have to get used to it a little if your coming straight from drag bars

Yea, umm it looks like you're missing something important there, but I can't put my finger on it.

Ive put apes on my previous harley , a dyna, and my current fatboy. I went for 14 apes on the dyna and thought that they werent quite tall enough. Ive fitted a HCC 18" package on the FB - which is a better fit. Idone 2500 mile roadtrips since then, includnuig a 650 mile day with no problems...

I started with 12.5" apes, moved up to 16"'s. Then I got some Carlini 16"'s which are more like 18"'s. I love them. The OL's sporty has T bars with 8" rise and they are comfy too, but I like the apes much better. I'd put apes on it but she is scared of them. LOL.

I have 18" Carlini Gangsta Apes and they are great. Comfortable but I have the cruise control lever so I can rest either hand if need be.
