Not the same old exhaust issue
I have a 2001 FXSTDI that I bought with Screaming Eagle 11 pipes with no baffles. I hated the popping and back firing so I bought a set of Hooker pipes. I expected some issues since they were new and I have the stock carb on the bike. When I put them on they sounded great, no popping or backfiring it was perfect. I ran that for about 6 months then suddenly it started the popping and small backfiring when I decelerated and sounded rough even at a stop. A buddy was riding his bike behind me and said it sounded like a can of bolts. If the mixture is right at the start isn’t it always right? Can it be a fouled plug? Any advice would be great. thanks

I would start looking for one of two things. A vacuum leak (maybe intake manifold gaskets). Or, dirty carb making it run lean. It should have had bigger jets put in the carb when it had the screaming eagle pipes on it. Then you would have not had the popping to begin with unless you had a vacuum leak then also.
