can it hurt a carburated bike to run in acc if it starts that way?

i just did the same thing today accidently started it that way, never checked that the brake light works, but the headlight works, just no odometer and spedometer, My first thoght was that the guy before me changed something around so that the miles wouldn't register on the odometer, i'm guessing he ran it in acc because i bought it 10 years old with only 5000 miles . . . .

i'm having a similar issue with my ignition. now i am going to try and start in acc when i get home. glad i just read that usually the contacts just need to be cleaned. i hopoe thats my problem.
