I have been wanting to do the same to my ride (but with hard bags) but am unclear on the mounting position of the bags. It seems most bikes I have seen with hard bars had them mounted really high. Someone got hard bag pics on a softail? Post 'em. Hijacked!

Drew
Drew, I don't think you'd mind the height of the bags, but you might not like the stand-off. Two things that I didn't like, but can live with about the Bagger Tails. One is how far away from the struts/fender they are. On the touring bikes, they normally have stuff filling that space, or have fillers. On the softail, it's not the case. I'm sure with hard bags, Cycle Vision filler panels would work wonders. But on the leather RK Classic bags, not so much. But I can understand why they do it. You have to have enough room between the fender/passenger seat to be able to open the bags fully. But it grows on you and I'm still not regretting the decision.
Second is that the bags, once mounted, do extend past the rear fender about 5/8". If your using small aftermarket rear turn signals, it's all good. But my idea was to drill the rear fender and us the bullet style touring rear signal lights. That aint gonna happen. They're 12" wide, and you have exactly 12" inside to inside on the bags. No biggie. I went with a set of Deringer signal lights from Auto-Gem. They aren't the LED's, but can be converted if not bright enough. Hell, I only need them for night riding anyway.

This is what they look like mounted. Again, thanks to you Dr. V-Twin for the help.

Not a problem, and thanks. I'll probably be looking for a set of hard bags in the near future to repaint and mount. But I got these Classic bags for $100 bucks and couldn't pass em up.

What I'd like, and I'd appreciate you keeping your eyes open Drew, is an 18 or 19 inch, 3.5 solid wheel, like the OEM ones. Not partial to billet wheels, and as much as I like 80/120 spoke wheels, just don't care for the cleaning/maintenance/tubes associated with em.
