Default Hertiage neutral ony start

My 07 Hertiage use to start in gear with the clutch in and I always thought it was a bad habit but made life a little easier at times. Anyways now it will only engage the starter with it in neutral. Any ideals what may have happened and how to fix the problem ?

Sounds like something in the starter relay is not right. Heck my 02 Deuce will start without pulling the clutch in and in gear! Been there done that after a couple of beers. Boy did I feel like a dork. You might check your relay out for something loose or dirty. If I recall correctly the sequence for circuitry is: Battery, starter/ main circuit breaker, ignition switch, ignition circuit breaker, then start switch. When you push the start switch it sends a signal to the relay which sends a signal to the starter/solenoid. Because it will start in Neutral leads me to believe something is not right at the relay.

There is a switch in the clutch lever perch on the handlebars. Take a flashlight and look in there to see if the lever is acuating the switch, or if the switch is damaged.
That would be a place to start any way.

Note: An 02 Deuce will not have the switch, as they didn't start using the switch till 07.

Did you by chance replace your levers recently? They need to be made to work with that switch.

Yea Faast Ed,I changed the levers to some chrome Kero ocki something anothers to purty it up some and after taking a flashlite out there as suggested by Chester1957, it is not activating the switch. I guess I will need to revert back to stock unless I can find another chrone one to work properly. Thanks guys....................

I had the same issue with my Jaybrake levers. I just start it in N, but always park in gear. No biggie, the levers are too nice to switch.

Doesn't sound like a bad thing to only start in neutral. I always start mine in neutral with the clutch in. Learned to do that from prior experiences leaving the local pub.
