I can agree with this, had to relearn turns (which actually didn't take long, I guess commuting in NYC gets you up to speed quickly) and I actually think this bike comes up easier out of a lean than my sporty did, feels like it has better balance.

Probably will never be as fast as the sporty stoplight to stoplight, but that extra gear will be nice at 70+ on the highway.

My rear tire is a D407, not a 205 I would think tires running on 100 degree+ roads would wear faster than roads up north

I had that same confused "why is this easier to lean" thought at first, but it makes sense when you think about it...

It's more weight, yes. But it's also a longer wheelbase, and lower overall height.
Thus, the bike is heavier, but with a lower center of gravity. So it makes sense that while in motion it'd be more inclined to move back up to a straight position.

For me, compared with my sporty, it holds a line better in turns, comes up easier and just seems better balanced. I was not the original owner of the XL1200C (from what I understand, it was a woman who hit a curb in a parking lot and sold the bike with 70 miles on it), and I suspect that the front springs were lighter than stock, also I have heard that Sportsters are more 'top' heavy and maybe that is a part of it.

407 was the factory, That was the 11k one, it was really hard and felt "squirrely" on wet roads. Made me nervous more than once.

The Ness forward control extensions are next, found them on EBAY new in box for about $165-$170 shipped. The Custom really works well for me, it seems like every upgrade I did to the sporty is already there stock on the Custom (except the Screamin Eagle pipes, LOL).
Thats a good price. I got mine here but it was a couple of years ago. http://www.easternperformance.com/pr...07%252d08-FXST
