My batt is plugged to the HD Battery Tender all the time when not riding, it has duplicated it's life time so far.

If you don`t have any draw on the battery when the bike is not running, there is no need for one.

The newer bikes with the security system put a draw on the battery so a tender is a good idea for long periods of inactivity.

My old `89 Softail sits in the garage all winter without a battery tender and fires up right away. 5 year old AGM type battery.

I got the Battery Tender brand water resistant model online for what everyone around wanted for just the JR model.
It came with the plug that matches my scoot as well as jumper type clips, and another pigtail like on my bike so I can put that on something else.
I did order the extension for about $8 so it'll reach just about anywhere in my garage.
It doubles the life of my battery and you avoid the big letdown like you had.
I wouldn't be without one.

Don't worry about it much it the summer, but winter will kill a battery. Cold weather will discharge a battery whether the bike has a drain or not...and a discharged battery will freeze. I keep one on everything that is not a daily driver in the winter. Got almost 10 years out of my last riding lawnmower battery.

I mainly use mine in the winter. Never had a problem in the summer!

Ditto on the winter usage. Usually plug mine in November through mid March. Otherwise, never use it.

This is the fourth bike I have used a Battery Tender. Use them full time one my current and last bike - only had to replace the battery when the bike was at the dealer's for three months

Its feeling real good and I'm thinking, should I go down by the water or just hit the highway. I turn the ignition, wait and hit the start - click, click, click; DEAD BATTERY . %@#!& - had to pull out the booster cables...

Anyone use battery tenders when leaving the bike for weeks at a time? Any particular models or makes...?

I leave mine plugged in all the time when I'm not on it. I'm convinced that will extend my battery life.
