it depends, if you want more classical refined look, it is the deluxe, if you want more bad-*** it is the fatboy, my vote is obvious.. Fatboy

Frankly I'm surprised you're stuck between those two models... night and day differences. I could more easily understand being stuck between the Heritage and the Deluxe, for me both have certain features I like and others I don't... frankly it pisses me off Harley won't let me design my own version without all the waisted effort & cost !

But, I'll try to help... think long term, unless yur just a weekend wannabe, every other weekend, and if so, it really won't matter. You'll sell either for a substantial loss in a year or three most.

Long term it's either old school nostalgia and cruising comfort, enjoying customing your ride to fit you and your riding style, or, it's gangsta and enjoying customing it to suit your gangsta mentality. Frankly, the latter is a passing fad as are all fads.

Obviously you've already made your decision, and a GOOD one at that, but another option is to get a deluxe and FATten it up a little. Kinda like the best of both worlds and you get to pick how much you want of either one. There are definitely some bad-*** deluxes around.
