Default My bike has finally sprung a leak...

On yesterday's ride my buddy noticed a fair amount of oil pooling under my primary drain plug. The seal between the tranny and primary has been leaking for a very long time (several years) and on really hot days would leave a drop or two on teh ground. Well, this was a lot more oil tahn a drop and looked to be a combo of primary oil and transmission oil. I run Redline in the transmission so it is easy to tell.

Needless to say, I was quite upset, but after getting home and talking to my buddy kk6pg (the man!) I have calmed down. I mean my bike only has 52K miles on it. LOL. Tuesday is tear down day and we will see what has gone wrong. He seems to think it is more than just the seal, maybe a blown bearing too. The good news is I get to repalce all the seals and bearings and maybe my whirring primary will become a thing of the past. Also, if I manage to pony up to dollars i can get a chrome inner primary on as I will be taking off the inner primary regardless.

I'll report back tomorrow with pics after the tear down. Tjhis si the first "problem" I have had with this bike since the fuel line in the tank developed a pin sized hole in it at 12k miles. Not bad for reliability.

We'll be tearing it apart tomorrow morning...so if you PM or email and don't get a response, you know where I will be. It's not a big deal really. 52k miles is a fair amount. From what I heard before I got a Harley, they broke down every 5 miles! LOL.

God Luck with the job. I , as many before me have stated, would be veru interested in write up outlining how you did the job and pics to back it all up. You might have to buy a few beers to help along the way.
