It sounds to me like the instructions were wrong. If I read your diagram correctly, the switch wire from the harness was wired to the passing lamps and the white wire to the yellow low beam wire. That is bassackwards. By reversing the wires at the relay, you got them correctly wired. At any rate, glad you got it fixed. Things like that can frustrate the daylights out of you.

How about another twist to this topic? If I wanted the use the running lights regardless of running low or high beams, what source would you wire terminal 86 to? Id want the running lights to turn off when I turn off the bike regardless of turning the running lights off with their switch.

+12v but switched ( ignition) it would operate the relay when you turned the ign. on but you could kill the lights with the aux. switch if you didn't want them on. Would then work independent of the Hi/Lo beams
