Default How full is your tank?

I have not had any fuel leak (Knock wood) but I was wondering how "full" you are filling your tank...

I stop filling when the fuel touches the bottom of the "indent" or aluminum step down with the HD logo stamped in it.

Could part of this problem be caused by an overfilled tank?

Where does the "overflow" line hook up at the tank top?

Thanks, Steve

Was leaking gas , took it to the dealer a few months ago to get fixed , they gave me a new cap and i stoped filling it to the brim and it dident leak til i filled it up yesterday, i filled the tank a lil more than usual and it leaked again , i pushed down and gave it another turn and no more gas came out . Harley either has a whole lot of shitty gas caps or something else is going on , gas should not leak from the cap . Last thing i need is something else to make my ***** smell worse.

I agree with whoever else said it's the cap. Mine did the same thing on my '09 train. Dealer replaced it for free. It just started doing it again.

I read about this in my owner's manual last night. Said that you can expect this to happen if you fill it to the top of the tank where the neck of the spout comes out.

Default Not bad cap

It is NOT a bad cap. The cap is fine. It is operator technique; that's all.

Problem is not tightening enough. Don't stop when you hear a couple clicks; It will tighten more if you give it another 1/2-turn or so. Ask me how I know.

well duh, the cap seals on the inner lip and if your above that it would but my bike has overflow hose so that cant happen. it is the round little hole in the lip. if clogged then you could over fill it.

What little hole are you referring to? The one at the top of the neck on the tank or the little hole on the underside of the cap? Thanks. Pics?
