Default What's with my battery tender?

Just plugged my HD battery tender in today. It's been about a month since I used it. However, when I plugged it in, the light stayed amber (charging mode), it never went to flashing green (80% charged) or solid green (monitoring charged battery), even after an hour. The bike cranks fine and I used a mulimeter to test the voltage on the battery and it's showing 12v. So, it seems my tender is stuck in charge mode, and not acting as a tender. It normally gets to solid green in under 20 minutes.

Anyone seen this before? Might be time for a new one.

Plug it into a different veh . . . Your car. use the alig/clips. If it goes green in a few minutes, you'll know it's you M/C Batt.

Make sure that the batt/cables are tight.

If all that chks out, time for a new tender

Why do you use a battery tender? Are you storing your bike?

A fully charged battery will read 12.9 volts. The tender is designed to charge until the battery is at 12.9 volts. Leave it on there longer and see if it comes up to 12.9.

Do you use a 1.5 or a .75 charger?
I wouldn't be concerned until the charger was on for at least 24 hours. I have both sizes and use the bigger one on my cars. When I put the 1.5 on my new car, it still takes several hours before it shows fully charged. I also use it on a 2005 Ram P/U, that still has the original battery. I charge the P/U for about 2 days at a time and it never does show charged. I never have had a problem with the P/U's battery, but I figure I'm on borrowed time.

If your battery is showing 12 volts, it is not fully charged. A fully charged lead-acid battery will read about 2.2 volts per cell, so a fully charged "12 volt" battery should read about 13.2 volts.

I use battery tender junior from time to time and have been pleased with the results. It to reacts differently some times but always goes to solid green when battery reaches around 13.The battery is in great shape just seems like tender takes more time sometimes.Other people have told me the samething about theirs.I keep close eye on my battery as I am on my third stator and regulator.$$$$$$

One of my battery tender plus did about the same thing the other day tried it on another bike and it did the same thing so I went and got me another one. How long have you had the tender it might still be under warranty. Is yours the HD sells or is it one that Battery Tender sells. There probably the same HD just sticks there sticker on it and charges more.

make sure you are plugging in the tender to the battery first...then plug it in to the electric
